About
Open Community Press is an independent editorial publication about the choices that shape community life. It is for people who take part in neighbourhood groups, shared projects, clubs and other kinds of collective activity, as well as readers who want to understand how people make things happen together.
What we cover
We explore belonging, gathering, participation, shared spaces and group projects. Our subjects range from how to make an invitation easier to accept to how a small group can agree on a clear next step. We focus on ideas readers can adapt to their own circumstances, not one-size-fits-all prescriptions.
Who we write for
Our readers may be organising an informal get-together, joining a group for the first time or looking for a more considered way to contribute. We write for curious general readers, using plain language and giving enough context to make an idea understandable without assuming specialist knowledge.
Our approach
We pay attention to the details that influence whether people can take part: how a gathering is arranged, whose needs are considered and how decisions are explained. We distinguish general ideas from claims that need evidence, avoid presenting one group's experience as universal and make room for different ways of living and organising.
